Strange pathways of the Web

Okay, so we've all done it at some point, sidetracked. You read something, get pulled in a completely different direction, forgetting your original focus. Here's how one of those worked for me. I frequent about a half dozen blogs everyday. Some are entertaining, some educating, some edutaining, some technology or software focused. Whatever the case, they provide me with hours of reading and new things to investigate. My latest sidebar was a weird one. I started by reading a blog, which like most nowadays, was basically a top 10 list. Funny how that's what we pass off as journalism nowadays. See, I digress already. In this particular case I was reading a list of the top 50 stylized fights in movies. That lead me to a Christian Bale movie I hadn't seen called Hard Times. The next day I started to watch that movie. In this movie Bale plays a hard ass, veteran, trying to join the police force, except that he's not exactly the picture of clean living. In one scene he has to pass a drug test and he's been flying high as a kite for most of the movie, so that's not exactly possible. This leads him to drink half a bottle of vinegar in order to "shut down the kidneys", thinking this will help him pass his drug test. There's more to it than that, but I don't want to spoil the plot. So, as I'm watching the movie I Google drinking vinegar and one of the first suggestions that comes up is "to pass a drug test". What in the world?! Of course, I read the link which leads me to this article: http://tinyurl.com/822us. So, not only are there companies selling products to aid in passing drug tests, but they even try to make it sound respectable. Um, okay. Wow. This is a strange world we live in. That lead me write this post, because I thought it was weird and of course, I haven't finished watching the movie, now. Maybe I'll come back after I'm done and I'll let you know how it turns out. :)
